Are knitting needles allowed on flights from the US to Japan?
I know that you can bring knitting needles on domestic flights in the US, but I wanted to know if they are allowed on international flights, especially from the US to Japan. Thanks in advance! Note: Please do not say they are not just because they sound dangerous, they are allowed on planes in the US! (check http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1252.shtm for details) What I want to know is if the rules are any different with Japanese standards. Thanks!

- nope. BOTTLED WATER isn't even allowed on most flights now....
- i don't think so. sorry. and i love to knit =)
- Nope. Sorry. Anything sharp or pointy, or that can be of harm to your surrounding people must be with your other baggages. It cannot be within your Carry-ons. If it's metal, then definatly not. If it is dull and plastic, you may take it on... Or so I think.
- Are you a terrorist!!? lol jk, no u cannot bring that!
- All flights originating in the US are subject to TSA standards. Knitting needles are most definitely allowed on US flights. You should be able to take them on the flight TO Japan. As far as the return flight, you would have to check on Japanese regulations. You might check with the airline, but unless they have a database that includes Japanese regulations, they may not have the answer. That being said... The individual security person has the right to ban whatever he/she wants if it is deemed to be dangerous, whether or not it is on the allowed list.
- No, anything with a sharp tip is NOT allowed on any flight wheater its a US flight or a International flight.
- No definitely not
- When my daughter went through Japan to the States on a flight recently, the screener did not say anything about her knitting needles and yarn. Bottled water is allowed on flights, but only if you purchase it once you clear security. Should you go outside the airport security area for any reason with that bottle of water, you will need to throw it away and then purchase another bottle after going through security again.
- I saw a woman on a flight to Italy last year with knitting needles but I think they were plastic. Also, I hate throwing away my water and paying $3 for a new bottle inside security so I just dump it out, keep the empty bottle and then fill it with the water fountain after clearing security. Yes, I'm cheap that way but I also only like Aquafina.
