  1. stitch n b*tch has great young looks. knit 1 is the vogue knitting mag specifically written for younger hipper knitters. My new favorite knitting book is knitting simple jackets by marianne cohen, they are really chic and use lovely yarns. go on line to knitty.com, they have some cute and funky clothes. also knitty gritty, on the diynetwork, has patterns for great looking clothes. There are alot out there, and you can also adapt simple patterns with color and interesting yarns to make them cool, just be brave.
  2. "Knit 1", of course. I've included a link for their website. If you like to have them actually *fit*, please begin with Maggie Righetti's "Sweater Design in Plain English". The older editions of The Vogue Sewing Book had noted "there are two important points ... in a blouse". It's the same with women's sweaters. Righetti helps knitters produce items that fit.
  3. I love Creative Knitting - lots of information and tips and great patterns!!
  4. For magazines, take yourself to a large bookstore (Barnes and Noble, Borders, etc.) and look through the different knitting magazines. Interweave Knits, Knitters, Creative Knitting, KnitSimple, Vogue Knitting, are some of the most popular ones. Of course, you can also go on-line and look at some of the things from current issues, too, by searching on the magazine names. For books, well, that's a bit harder to find ones that have current styles because they aren't updated like magazines are, but that doesn't mean that they aren't useful. Go to your public library and use interlibrary loan to read books they have or can get for you to see what you like. There are some good basic books out there that should be in any knitter's library that you may find helpful for techniques rather than just patterns.
  5. Knitty.com has some great young fun patterns. Most are free. Also, Lionbrand and Paton's both have free patterns at their site, and lots of patterns for hip people. Oh, and KnittyGritty's gal, Vickie Howell, she has lots of great young knitsters. And I think KnitPicks.com has a lot of good patterns. You might try multi-directional knitting, there are a lot of very cool things you can do with multidirectional knits.
