Knitting and crocheting stitches and such?
I have been trying to learn to knit sice x-mas 05 and have been pretty unsucessful. Does anyone know any books, websites or anything that would help me? I would love anything you can bring up to me. Then, I've been crocheting since maybe 3rd-4th grade, but i haven't gone more advance then a scarf. I don't know any other stitch other then the casting on stitch and that's it. I would love to get a lottle more creative, and go more advance but I haven't found anything. Any books, websites, your own story anything? Thank so much for any answers!

- Go to your local craft supply store. If it has yarn, they will have books. Most, if not all, of these books show simple stiches that are used in the patterns. They also tell you what kind of yarn to buy, how much and the simplicity rating on the patterns. Take your time, look through the books, find something that you think you can handle. Usually the stitches used in the book are shown at the back. Usually last page and back cover page. Make sure you use the correct needle size, then just pratice, practice practice, it really does make perfect.
- While there are some great books and stuff out there, have you tried Knitting Help.com? It is a great site with FREE VIDEO LESSONS! Can't beat free, and the great part about a video is that you can rewind it as often as you need to without feeling embarrassed. The crochet link isn't as cook as knitting help, but it does offer suggestions for reading patterns. I have been knitting for 12 years and crocheting for 30. Don't give up. Don't worry, with time you will get better.
- As for knitting, this site shows you with video. http://www.knittinghelp.com/ Good luck.
- you can give this site a good look at, it will help you on how to make a knit and a purl stitch. remember it does take time and effort to master certain other stitches. you can do it and good luck.
- I learned to knit 100% from the internet and books. Here are the websites & books I used: ~http://www.angelyarns.com/instructions/guide.php ~http://www.anniesattic.com/knitting/content.html?type_id=S ~http://www.learn-to-knit.com/ ~Teach Yourself Visually Knitting ~VOGUE KNITTING Beginner Basics On the Go! ~Knitting School: A Complete Course If I can do it, ANYONE can do it! Good luck! =0)
- I dont know whether you are left or right handed but this does make a slight difference to your work but dont worry if you are left handed as there are many free books on the internet to show you.
- You might have luck with the Knit Stitch. It is a book with a lot of projects, from very easy to more difficult, but is entirely in the garter, or knit stitch, so you are only learning one stitch at a time. It has very clear explanations and pictures. You can probably find it at your public library. I would recommend you go there before you buy any books, so you can find the one that works best for you. There are a lot of good books out there, and I think it is a little easier to knit with one than knitting in front of your monitor. You might also try Knitting in Plain English. Good luck and enjoy yourself.
- Go to http://www.youtube.com/user/theknitwitch she has a ton of knitting videos. how-to, stitch explinations etc.
- there are only 2 stiches, the Knit Stitch and the purl stitch. Everything else is basically just a combination of those stiches on www.knittingpatterncentral.com on the techniques page it tells you about that and all the stuff that you can do with it
- Hi, Casting on is a knitting term, not a crocheting term. Are you using 1 needle or 2? 1 needle - is a crochet hook. 2 needles are for knitting. I taught myself how to crochet when I was 9, using a "teach yourself how to crochet" book. Likewise with knitting - only many years later. Check out the Knitting Guild or the Crochet Guild. I find crocheting much easier. there are just a few stitches, and they are all easy to master. the difficult part is memorizing the terms. When I learned to crochet, the book had pictures and I learned by following the pictures. After I did that, then I went back and learned to read the cryptic instructions. I mean -when you are 9, what does sc or dc or even hdc mean? strange stuff. Once you learn that- it is all very easy. Good luck.

- This might be an "old-days" kind of answer ... but check out your local library. I've been crocheting since I was a kid, too, and most of the stitches and patterns that I've learned have been from browsing in the library. You can often see photos in the books, you can photocopy them to keep, or just write down the pattern to try when you get the chance. With the internet it's a less popular place, but t's still a great resource ...
- Well this is from a knitter that felt as you do...I wanted to learn more about crocheting and I found a book "63 Easy-To-Crochet Pattern Stitches..Combine to make an heirloom Afghan" It is put out by Leisure Arts. I fell in love with the picture on the cover and decided to take the plunge. My daughter wanted an Afghan so I made this in her colors. After many struggling months(with help from crocheting friends) I finally finished it last month. It even excited me to see the final creation...I can honestly say now that I know about every crochet stitch that was ever invented...Each of the squares ...I cut mine down to 57 squares...teaches you a different crochet pattern. Try it and I promise you will not be disappointed!
- hi my nan taught me as a kid. I get my things from spotlight also small craft shops they are very helpful. Sometimes they have classes that are not that expensive a few dallar a lesson. People often advertise in the local paper. I hope this helps. Oh yeah spotlight does lessons also.
