how can i fix dropped knitting stitches?

i'm knitting a scarf in a (K1 P1 rep each row) pattern but i noticed i dropped a stitch a few rows before how can i get back to it without unraveling the whole thing? any suggestions? i'm more of a beginner so any complicated ideas will go over my head if you can think of anything simple that can help please let me know.

  1. use a crochet hook! push the hook through the loop of the dropped stitch, snag the yarn "rung" just above and pull it through the loop of the dropped stitch. Your dropped stitch is now one row higher. Repeat.
  2. Yes, use a crochet hook (use one the same mm size as your needles or one size smaller for best results) and work from the knit side of your stitch so all you have to see is the V. Just keep your scarf spread taut enough so that you pick up each strand in turn and not twist rows. Lay it out on a table for the easiest working surface. This is also what you do when you discover a mistake in your knitting as well. Drop the stitch in the column with the mistake off the needle and ravel it down. Then pick it up (remember on the purl side you have to flip the strand so the top of the stitch comes over it, so you may have to work on both sides) working the stitches correctly. Also, if you have to work part of a row to get to the spot where the mistake is, put a safety pin in the dropped stitch so it doesn't ravel any further down.
