Knitting. Where should the tail be after cast-off is complete?
I just started and think I got the cast-off down but the tail is at the top of the needle. Is it supposed to be there and if so what do I do with it?

- Bottom of the needle. The line of yarn should be on the bottom too. EDIT [-----------------------> ....................... ^ The tail should be here on this side. Sorry the arrows ar not pointing right. I meant on the bottom of the needle when you are holding it. Not at the back of the needle.
- After casting on it should be at the top. Then you slide the other needle into the first loop(in the front) and place the yarn from the tail inbetween, and draw the stitch off. I am thinking you mean the line of yarn when you are talking about the "tail."
- It depends what cast on method you used. If you used the thumb cast on, the tail should be at the same end as where your ball of yarn is attached. If you used two needles, it should be at the other end.
- I would suggest taking a look at this site: http://www.knittinghelp.com This site is a very helpful tool when first learning how to knit. there are a number of viedos that you can watch, that will help you figure out if you are doing things right.
- Did you just put the yarn on the needle? If so you won't have a tail you will have the skein you were working on. I think that you meant you cast off all the stitches on the needle and tail would be at the left hand end of your needle. If you are going to weave (hide) the left over thread leave enough so you can work it into the project. If this doesn't answer your question can you give me further detail?
- it depends on what cast method you used try looking at http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/cast-on this may help
