Stitches

Loom knitting, cast on question?

I have tried many different cast on methods but I can never get the start to look as tight and put together as the bind off end. Anyone out there have a solution?

  1. This seasons Knitty has a section on how to loom knit. Has a detailed cast on. I've never tried using a loom but I think I might soon. Looks fun. http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/FEATloomknitting.html
  2. I just looked at Ann's link. It would make a firmer edge, more like the edge of a bind-off. Try that at least once. If it works, give Ann the points. :-) Otherwise, try tightening up your e-stitches from the "regular" beginning methods *after* you've knit an inch or so.
  3. Samantha, There are two different crochet cast on methods (maybe even more but two that I know of). This is the method I teach my students at a local craft store. Make a slip knot and put your crochet hook through the loop. Placing the looped hook BEHIND the first peg and reach between the first and second peg, grab the yarn that you bring across the FRONT of the first peg and slip stitch it through the original loop. Now you have a new loop which you will place behind the second peg. Continue doing this until the next to the last peg. Place the loop on the last peg instead of crocheting it. I've given you a link for a video that shows this technique. This resolved the loopy edges and I use it on almost everything now! Good luck and happy looming!
