  1. barnes & noble has a great kit - knitting for kids to make scarfs and upgrade to mittens when they get good. borders and "highlights" for kids has a knitting craft box that uses a pre-formed knitting weaving machine to make a scarf only (no needles included for those little ones who want to play swords) My daughter - 6yrs old has already made two scarfs, one with me, one on her own - easy to use.
  2. One of the first things I knitted when I was that age was a teddy bear in garter stitch. It was easy enough that I could do most of it on my own as it was just repetition. I just needed help with when I had to add/decrease stitches. A similar pattern is here: http://www.knittingwisdom.com/patterns/toys/patterns/garter-stitch-bear.htm You could also try a scarf. You could do it in garter stitch again to keep it simple but maybe add some pretty pearl beads to make it a bit different. Could be something for her or maybe something as a present, to get her motivated. There are lots of free patterns on the site that had the teddy. Hope that helps. Good luck!
  3. i just learned to knit last month and i learned from this site... http://www.theyarnco.com/instruction.php i checked out some other sites (some even had videos) but i found this site to be the simplest and easiest to understand-even easier than the videos i watched.... good luck!!
