- try a craft store.
- The first site listed had a pretty easy to read set of instructions for a baby blanket. For myself, I usually use the lion brand website for instructions. Or, you can go to thriftyfun.com. They have search options to go back through their posts and I've found lots of great knitting/crafting projects that are fairly simple and easy to read.
- I hate to say this, but a baby blanket is a kind of complicated project for a beginning knitter or crocheter. If you can, try to find a simpler project. There is a excellent website that has some simple instructions for almost anything. It's the Lion Brand website, www.lionbrand.com. Go to the pattern section. I do scarves all the time, some with very nice yarns. Try to find a simple reversible stitch pattern, so the blanket, if you do it is reversible. Seed stitch is an example.
- There are several great websites for beginning knitters and crocheters. Try knitty.com or the Lion Brand Yarn website. A blanket is not much different than a scarf, it's only bigger. You can do it!
- Joanne Fabrics has really good books to learn how to cross stitch as well as knitting. If you don't haveone near you go to a Walmart and the ladies in the knitting and craft department will help you with any quetions
- Lionbrand.com and knitty.com are good sites (recommended already) Stitch N B*tch books are also really good. Any my favorite book is "Drunk, Divorced and Covered in Cat Hair" by Laurie Perry. She is a riot - the book is so much fun to read AND at the back she has several really easy to read and follow patterns including one for a baby blanket.
- Knitting Digest, by House of White Birches,306 East Parr Road, In, 46711......219 589 8093 Subscriptions....Knitting Digest, PO Box 9003, Big Sandy, TX 75755 or call 800 829 5865 or email Customer-Service@whitebirches.com This same company I think, has crochet booklets too. They are the easiest patterns to follow that you will ever find.
- For a quick fix, you could apply the same concept of making a scarf to a blanket; just make it wider by starting with more stitches. You may need a class/teacher for hands-on learning. Otherwise, some online resources are: http://groups.msn.com/VonsCrochetCyberspace under Basics & Beginners or Learning Links
- There is a wealth of information to help you understand crocheting on this webisite. You don't have to be a member to watch and it is all free. http://www.youtube.com/tjw1963 http://www.youtube.com/my_playlists?p=FFF15236A0B97605
- here are some free membership free patterns that i found at lionbrand.com http://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/patternFinder.fcgi?search=Search&searchText=free+baby+blanket
- I like the instructions at www.lionbrandyarn.com best as they are written so that even I can understand them. You can select your patterns based on your knitting expereience. If you know how to make a scarf, remember, a blanket is the same as a scarf only the dimensions are different. Once that really set into my head, I was able to start making blankets and afghans. Good luck with your baby blanket! I am sure you will do a beautiful job! What a wonderful keepsake to receive and be able to hand down the generations!
- In general, the patterns that you are reading ARE clearly written. You just need to learn the language. Reading a patterns is almost like learning a foreign language and once you get the hang of it, your knitting and crocheting possibilities will be endless! Here are a few good sites for learning to do more involved stitches and to read patterns: http://www.crochet.org/ http://www.knittinghelp.com/ http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa052398.htm http://knitting.about.com/od/stitchglossary/Learn_to_Knit_Knitting_Stitch_Pattern_Glossary.htm
