Anybody knows sth about machine knitting?

In knitting factory, what dose it mean when they say 400 needles ? thanks.

Knitting machines can be hand powered or motor assisted. Pattern stitches can be selected by hand manipulation of the needles, or with push-buttons and dials, mechanical punch cards, or electronic pattern reading devices and computers. When I search this I cant find 400 needles, I think it can help you a little bit.
