is there a website where I can find free knitting patterns easy enough for kids to do?

I have been teaching a friends daughter to knit she is 8 and I am having problems finding patterns easy enough for her to understand (most of them I can hardly understand as I am very new to this myself) if anyone knows where I can find some online I would be grateful thank you. I already tried lions brand but even their beginner patterns are to hard.

  1. Go to craftster.org and look in the knitting section. Its a WONDERFUL site for all craft-related goodies.
  2. I learned to knit at age 7. My recollection is that a *quick* project was a good project, because I wanted a finished item to show off. The Lion Brand Lion Cotton 1-Hour Potholder at http://learntoknit.lionbrand.com/ should work. It is a square done in garter stitch (every stitch is knitted; no purling necessary). The most difficult thing about it is holding three strands of yarn together; the second most difficult thing is using a crochet hook to make a ten-stitch chain for the hanging loop. However, if you don't want to get into crochet as well, you could sew on a nylon curtain ring for a hanging loop. Coats and Clark have a free download of instructions for a hat, a purse, a headband, and a cell phone or iPod cover that are kid-friendly at http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Knitting/Projects/Accessories/WR1640+Beginner+Fun+Knit+Projects.htm The Bernat website (http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php) has numerous easy patterns a child could do within a reasonable time for herself or for others. A division of Bernat, Sugar 'n' Cream, has a separate web site (http://www.sugarncream.com/pattern.php) with easy free patterns. KnitPicks free patterns (http://www.knitpicks.com/FREE+Knitting+Patterns_PL300218.html) include some that are sized for adults but would be fun for kids, including the headbands and the Potato Chip scarf, which introduces increases. Just scale the sizes down for a small person (or she could create a gift for an adult).
  3. i know lion brand has a section called for kids by kids did youlook in that section , otherwise go to the library and look for kids knitting books.
