Is velvet a good fabric for a cloak?

I'm getting a custom made cloak that is of a wizard design with some embroidery, is velvet a good choice in this case?

1. sounds fabulous, get a dark colored velvet, liek maybe a deep burgandy, or navy, or purple. that'll be sick

3. Yes! Velvet lays very well, and the thickness of the fabric adds good colour effect.
4. It will pretty & expensive, and heavy, how about silk, its airy, light, and pretty!?or possibly fake velvet(velveteen), it looks like velvet, feels like velvet, not as heavy less expensive.
5. It's really a matter of personal preference but yes, velvet is a good choice. Hope that your cloak is also lined (satin?) as sometimes velvet will stick to your clothing and "bunch" up.
