How to make a crochet shirt smaller without taking it all apart?

I made a crochet top and its a little bigger then planned..I am looking to see if there is a way to make it smaller without having to take it all apart and redo it?

  1. Washing and drying it might make it shrink a little. If your shirt is made of a natural fiber, then follow all washing instructions on the label to avoid felting, then it would be too small. If that fails, then why don't you crochet a belt to go with your shirt to cinch your waist, that could help too without changing the size. Enjoy!
  2. This has happened to me, so if attempting to shrink it doesn't work and it probably won't, lace a matching elastic thread through the neckline stitches, the shoulder seams and around the bottom. Pull the elastic up to the size that you want and sew the elastic in place. This will help take it up and still give you the necessary stretch you need to wear it comfortably. If it is too big through the width, there isn't a whole lot you can do other than cinch it in with a ribbon, belt or insert an elastic thread waistline.
