How do you crochet a rectangular blanket rather than a square?
Hi I know how to crochet the basic square, but I don't know how to make the length longer (as in a rectangle) and i really would like to know because i need to make a blanket for my friend and he's really tall so i feel that a rectangle blanket would fit him better than a large square. Simple instructions would be very much appreciated! Thank you if you are able to help, and the sooner the better!

- being as you know how to do squares, I suggest you crochet a bunch of 1'x1' squares then stitch them together with a needle big enough for the yarn you are using into a long rectangle shape. My mom used to make afghans....I'm not sure if she used a needle and yarn to join the squares or just her crochet hook and the yarn...
- I made a blanket when I first learned to crochet. I only knew how to do granny squares, so it was one giant granny square. At both ends, however, I added a few rows going back and forth instead of all the way around. My mom loved it.
