How should I take care of my stitches?

I got stitches on my finger on Saturday and my doctor told me to keep gauze pad and splint on it for 3 days. I get them removed in about 5 days but should I keep a band aid on it or nothing at all? I go to school and there are lots of germs so I've been putting a bandaid & basatracin on it but i do not know if i should leave it uncovered?

When in public, I would keep it covered to keep germs at bay. At home, and when you sleep, uncover it so the air can get to it.

Keep it covered, but don't use band aids, the sticky stuff on those plasters could rip out one of the stitches and then have to be re-stitched. Just use a gauze material, then keep that in place by putting a plaster/band aid over the gauze to keep it on the finger. Also you must keep that hand dry, hard I know when suddenly you end up one handed, but 10 days will pass soon enough, then you will be able to wash and bathe properly, even help with the washing up ! what's that, you got a dishwasher, well anyway keep it dry.
