Stitches

What is the easiest stitch to knit a scarf?

I want to make a scarf, but I am a beginner ><'' I want to make a very light scarf using either merino wool or maybe acrylic (i researched a bit, but if anyone knows any other light weight yarns?) and small size needles (maybe 4 mm?) What would be the easiest stitch to use for this? Please help ><

  1. Garter stitch where you just knit every row.
  2. When I teach beginners, I ask them to start on a scarf using what we in the US call "Category 4" or "worsted weight" yarn and what you in the UK call "Aran" or "10-ply." It's a nice, smooth yarn that will let you concentrate on learning to make stitches with even tension and to "read" your knitted fabric. I also suggest that they use a larger needle, approximately 5 mm to 6.5 mm, and for most people I recommend 6.5 mm. The larger needles are actually easier to use for beginners than are smaller ones. The first project I suggest is a scarf knit the long way: Cast on approximately 200 stitches. Knit every row (garter stitch) until you run out of yarn or until the scarf is as wide as you want it. You can use self-striping yarn if you want to fancy it up. By the time you get through knitting this scarf, your tension should have become even, you should be wrapping all your stitches in the same direction, and you should have the same number of stitches on every row as you cast on (count them after every row).
  3. Garter stich. I hate it though. Just DO it. Dont think to much about it, just pick a pattern and do it.
