Stitches

How long after having stitches removed may I go swimming?

Two weeks ago I had a benign tumor removed from the left side of my right thigh. This was fairly major surgery and I was under anesthesia for 1.5 hours. I was given 16 stitches for the opening. I just had them removed this morning and am now wondering how long I should wait until I can completely swim?
