can anyone tell me what C3 or C whatever number means in knitting instructions I have never come across it?

- The abbreviations for a pattern are usually given before the pattern instructions begin. If your pattern is in a book sometimes the abbreviations for all the patterns are given on 1 page at the beginning or end of the book. Check the index to find which page.
- The "C" refers to cable stitching and this is what you do when you se the "C3" knit into front of 3rd st on needle, then knit first st in usual way slipping this St off the needle, now knit 2nd st in usual way, slipping 2nd and 3rd sts off needle together.
