Are there easy knitting patterns for a beret?
I'm looking for a pattern for a beret that's rather easy. Unfortunately, I cannot stand knitting with ribbing, so does anyone know of any patterns that do not use ribbing?

- Well, there's straight knitting, that is, knitting or purling the whole row. And many people use loom knitters to make berets, and that's pretty easy. Do you not like the look of ribbing, or you just don't like having to switch back and forth from knitting to purling? Because it's easy to follow the pattern if you are doing ribbing.
- Berets, by definition, are not an "easy" knit. They require increasing and then decreasing to create the "plate" shape (many knitters block their berets over a dinner plate). If you want easy, beanies or "toboggans" are much easier. However, if you're asking for a *relatively* easy pattern for a beret, here's a free one for download: http://www.katyafrankel.com/pattern%20pages/chevronberet.html . If you don't like the look of ribbing, the purpose of which is to keep the hat on your head, you can use needles one size smaller than called for and knit 1" of garter stitch instead. Then use elastic thread (designed for the sewing machine) or thin elastic and run two rows of elastic through two rows of brim stitching, on the inside where it does not show.
