How do I make my own cross-stitch patterns?

I am struggling to find patterns on the net for my kids. How do I make my own??? Thanks =)

1. You can use PC chart making software or get the chart made for you professionally.
2. Take some graph paper and colored pencils, and a regular drawing pencil. Sketch out the picture in the drawing pencil, then color in the squares with the colored pencils. Remember that you can make three quarter and quarter stitches in cross stitch, and that you can use backstitching for lines. There's your chart.

4. take a page out of a coloring book, lay a grid pattern over it, trace the lines onto the grid pattern, then do the cross stitch using 4 blocks of color to one of the grids.for your cloth. I used coloring books for most designs for clothing appliques, cake decorations, rugs, cross stitch patterns, and quilt blocks. I still buy lots of simple coloring books to make stuff for grand children, great nieces and nephews, and friends grandchildren.
