how do you digitize a photo for embroidery?

I have a Janome 9500, and i've been using Janome Customizer to digitize clip art ect, but now I want to digitize a photograph. Does anyone have any ideas how I get started?

1. I presume you would need to scan the photo in a resolution and file format that will work with the program that you use
2. It's not as easy as deciding that you're going to digitize a photo. You'll need to spend some time learning digitizing basics. Do a search on 'Janome customizer digitizing tutorials' to get an idea of whats available. You might also want to check out groups.yahoo.com to see if there's a group for people who digitize with the Janome software.
