Are knitting needles allowed in carry on baggage?

I am traveling through american airlines and want to know if its ok to pack my knitting needles in my carry-on. I am not checking a bag in.

  1. no no no! don't even risk it, especially through american airlines! They get picky about everything. i wouldn't risk it if i were you
  2. Yes, they are allowed. See site below...it is very specific. Now, sometimes you get a Napoleanic, stupid TSA guy who wants to confiscate them, even if you have a printout of the TSA rule to show him...they do that with lots of things. Some people have written in here that smaller,plastic needles seem to pass through better...but I really think it depends on the TSA person you happen upon at the security check. the airline has nothing to say about it...it is the TSA.
