A stitch in time saves nine what?

I heard this saying once and I guess the person didn't finish it because he never said what nine it saves. and i looked it up but couldn't find it! can someone help me?

1. Fix a small problem immediately before it becomes a big problem.Good advice. ( One stitch for a little hole will save you needing 9 stitches later.)

It doesn't refer specifically to anything, that is, there is no explicit saying "A stitch in time saves nine *things*" Basically, it just means that if you put in a strong and timely effort into something, it will save you bundles of time in future, because you won't have to go back and fix your screw ups :)
