Can I simply double crochet Lionbrand Homespun for a baby blanket?

I will be using the large K size hook and I'd like to just double crochet a blanket. Will this work? Also, for homespun do I need to use more than 1 strand of yarn? Most of the patterns I've seen require at least 2. This yarn is so expensive and it doesn't crochet well after the first time, so I'm afraid to try it and then redo if it doesn't work. Any tips welcome!

  1. My advice, is to double crochet one row and single crochet back, double the next, single the next all the way to the end. The reason is this will keep your work from slanting and refreshes the foundation for every double knit row. You don't have to use 2 strands, but 2 will probably give it just a bit more weight and body, thus added warmth.
  2. i honestly hate this yarn. i used it once and will never use it again bc it was such a pain. i made a scarf out of it and i used a smaller hook w/ only one strand. im not proud of that scarf bc it didnt look good to me.a dc should work for a blanket. here is one using a sc and 1 strand if it helps (u may have to sign up but its free and u dont receive any emails from them) http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/80980AD.html?noImages= here is one using v stitches (a combo of dc ch dc) using a k hook and only one strand http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/chsb-victoryBlanket.html?noImages= another w/ sc and k hook http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/chs-diagonalBabyBlanket.html?noImages= here is one u could use u would just skip the color changes and not worry about the verticle strips it tells u to crochet in later http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/chsb-blanket.html?noImages= hoped these helped
