How to turn pictures into stitches on embroidery machine?

My friend owns a Brother 1500 embroidery machine. Wants to make a logo that is on paper, but can;t figure out how to turn the logo into stitches. How to program the machine to make the design? Anyone familiar with this? Is it even possible? Thanks.

1. She needs specialized software for her computer. Or she can ask a dealer to digitalized it for her but that is expensive She cannot do that solely on the machine
2. I'm not familiar how that machine works but I often get custom embroidered patches and shirts on http://www.digitplace.com/. You however can searched on how that machine works.
