Can you carry on knitting needles on an airplane?
Can you have knitting needles with you in your carry on when you are flying in a plane or will they not pass through security?

- Knitting needles are OK: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1252.shtm
- TSA in the United States says they're OK on the TSA website, but you might still have issues with them. Internationally British Air bans knitting needles of any kind. Even if TSA lets you through with them the flight attendants will holler at you if they see you with the needles out of your bag. Other airlines internationally to Europe have been OK for me - KLM, Air France and SAS all pulled them out of my bag when I went through security but allowed me to travel with them. One recommendation often seen is to bring wood needles (since they are less sharp and seem less dangerous), and circs if possible. If you are planning to knit on the plane circs are handy because you can't drop a needle that you'd have to search for. I always bring waste yarn with me too so if the needles get confiscated I don't lose the work already on the needles.
- That's a stiff point contact local airline security
