Does anyone know the color codes for embroidery thread?

I'm making a baby blanket for a relative. The kit I have is cross-stich with the pattern stamped on. I have made these many times, but this one is a bit different. The thread that came with this kit is loose, and there are no codes to identify the thread to the color, so it is making it very difficult to go to the store and buy extra thread. Do any of you know the color codes for embroidery thread? It's hard to match it up just by looks alone, since some of the colors look very similar. Thanks!

1. The stores that sell the embroidery thread usually have the color charts. You could take some thread with you to see if you can match. Couldn’t find a color chart for DMC on their web site. However this site has the DMC color chart available for printing. 2. It depends on the brand of floss. The two most common are Bates and DMC. The color charts will be on their web pages.
