- I learned to knit and crochet from the Stitch n Bitch books, by Debbie Stoller. They're rather popular and should be in your local bookstore, or even in your library. Also, large craft chains (and local yarn stores! shop local!) often have classes aimed at beginners. It's a great hobby! Good luck. :) Edit: Yahoo edited out part of the title. It's a five letter "bad" word that starts with a b.
- If you live near your school, a library, or maybe a book store, most of them have knitting or crocheting clubs and you could learn there. Even if it is just a knitting club, most of them know how to crochet and you can learn there.

- Hi Kenneth: I'm so thrilled you want to learn crochet. I'm left handed and I taught myself and now teach to a group of retired women who are all right-handed. I have seen Teresa Richardson on U-Tube who is great, and there are no shadows and the is slow-motion footage so you can see directly how each stitch is being developed. She is the best and she also has a blog where she shares her patterns freely with others. I know you don't like videos but the detail of her on U-Tube are superb. Hope this helps. zippygranny

- The Lion Brand site has instructions with illustrations or video: your choice: http://learntocrochet.lionbrand.com/ Just scroll down below the video for the drawn illustrations. Otherwise, your best bet is to pick up a beginning crochet book at your local craft store. The most popular is probably "I Can't Believe I'm Crocheting." While at the craft store, take a moment to thumb through the beginning books and find one with illustrations you can work with. Some are photographs, and some are drawn illustrations. I personally think the drawn ones are clearer and easier to learn from than the ones with photographs, but YMMV.
