Stitches

After birth experience?

I have a few questions about what is normal after giving birth. I had a very difficult delivery and don't know what is expected and what is caused by the trauma if anything. First, is it normal for the bleeding to be sporadic? My bleeding was very heavy, then I passed a large clot and it became very light, but now it is heavy again. Also, is it normal for your vagina to constantly feel like it is on fire where the stitches are? I had two second degree tears and the spots where I am stitched up burn all the time even after using the tucks pads and dermoplast. Also I know pelvic pain is normal but if you had really bad pelvic pain how long did it last? Thanks in advance for any advice.

  1. Yes its normal for the bleeding to be sproadic - so long as your clots are smaller than a golf ball your fine Yes its normal for the stitches to make you feel like your on fire - be sure your using your peri bottle as well when you pee And pelvic pain is different for everyone - mine lasted a couple of weeks
  2. Sporadic bleeding is common but watch out for clots. If you start to get large clots call your healthcare provider. The bleeding should fade from bright red to light pink to a white/yellowish colour between delivery and 6 weeks PP. I constantly felt burning where my stitches were until they dissolved and healed completely around 4 weeks PP. I found applying pressure and dousing with warm water helped as did wearing a pad to prevent irritation. It depends on how severe the pelvic pain is. If it goes away with pain killers and you can move around it's normal but if you're literally in bed all day and you're doubled over in pain you should see your healthcare provider for an accurate examination.
  3. Congrats on your new baby :) Yes that's very normal, i had heavy bleeding on and off for the first 4 weeks and then continued to bleed lightly for another two. Its also normal to pass some clots as long as they are not very big. oh yes unfortunately it is normal for the burning sensation. I also had a second degree tear and stitches and it took around 4 weeks before it was feeling better. I found that salt baths really helped with the pain. Just adding some salt into a bath and resting yourself in there for 10 minutes 3 times a day. My pain lasted around 3 weeks. It was most painful while breast feeding. Hope i helped :)
