Stitches

How do I take care of my cat's stitches?

So three days ago they shaved my cat pretty hard and they hurt her but they are only superficial so the goddamn vet didn't tell me about the stitches an when I found out I called him and he said he did stitch them so that she wouldn't lick at them (doesn't make sense but eh) anyway she has Like two on her right arm and two on her right leg but she didn't do anything about them so that kind of comforts me that they don't hurt her. How do I take care of em? Do I have to dab them with something? They don't seem to hurt her. Are they supposed to fall out or dissolve within the next couple of days? What are the signs of infection? It's a little powdery on the stitches but he said it's a medicine to accelerate the healing process. is that true? I'm never taking her to that vet ever again. Plz if you have any piece of info share it here I'll be very thankful!

  1. Well your vet should have really given you some more information and informed you. Most stitches they give now dissolve so I wouldn't worry about that. The best thing you can do is make sure your cat doesn't like at the stitches and the skin isn't infected. If the stitches haven't begun to dissolve by the end of the week or you notice some signs of infection, I would contact your vet.
  2. I think you are rightfully angry with the vet and would not go back there either. The stitches should start to dissolve on their own in a few days. I would gently wipe the areas with a warm cloth once a day and check for any redness or swelling. If you do see and signs of infection call a different vet and have her checked. Hope everything works out.
