- You have a lot of very good questions! One place to get very good answers is at Lion Brand's "Learn to Knit" center: http://learntoknit.lionbrand.com/?learnToKnit=1 You'll find video tutorials, written instructions, and illustrations that will answer your questions. Meanwhile, if you are asking how to cast on for circular knitting with double-pointed needles and then join them so that you're knitting a tube, here's how: 1. Cast on all of the required stitches to one needle. Check the count. This will become the center needle. 2. Using another double-pointed needle, move 1/3 of the stitches forward and onto this needle. 3. Using a third double-pointed needle, move 1/3 of the stitches back off the center needle and onto this needle. 4. You now have 3 double-pointed needles, each with 1/3 the required number of stitches, which you can call "Needle 1," "Needle 2," and "Needle 3." Needle 2 is the middle needle, the one you started with. "Needle 1" is the one with the working yarn attached to it. Move "Needle 1" and "Needle 3" to form a triangle with "Needle 2" at the base of the triangle, "Needle 1" to the right, and "Needle 3" to the left. 5. Look carefully at the stitches on the needles. The bottoms of the stitches must be in a straight line. When the stitches continue from "Needle 1" to "Needle 2" and from "Needle 2" to "Needle 3," there should also be a straight line (no twists of stitches around the needle). 6. With the 4th needle, lift the topmost stitch from "Needle 3" and place it on the tip of "Needle 1." 7. With the 4th needle, lift the second stitch from "Needle 1" OVER the stitch you just moved to "Needle 1" and place it on "Needle 3." You have now "joined to knit in the round." 8. Verify that the stitches are still straight and not twisted around the needles or at the joinings between needles. 9. Begin knitting by using your free fourth needle to knit the stitches off "Needle 1." How to knit 2 stitches as 1: 1. Move 2 stitches into working position on your left-hand needle. 2. With your right-hand needle, move the tip into the SECOND stitch and then into the FIRST stitch, catch the working yarn, and knit off both stitches with one loop to form one new stitch.
