How long does it take to crochet a queen or king size afghan?

I'm pretty good at crochet. I'm doing one in a double crochet ripple pattern...I need to know how long it will take because I've never done one before. I'm using the Super Saver Red Heart yarn from Walmart.

  1. My granny use to make one a year - usually busy all winter crocheting (about 6 months)
  2. Depends on how fast you are and how much time you spend on it every day. a few hours a day for maybe a month
  3. This depends a great deal on how much time you have available for crocheting and how fast you crochet. The hook size and yarn will affect things as well. What I would suggest you do is sit down at a time when you can crochet uninterrupted for a bit. Start at the beginning of one row and work the entire row without stopping. Note the time you begin and the time you end. Knowing how long it takes you to do one row is the first step in determining how long it will take to complete the entire afghan. If you are working a pattern with a specified number of rows, just multiply that time by the rows. For example, if you did the row in 30 minutes and you need to make 100 rows, you will need 50 hours to work the body of the afghan. That is 50 straight hours, without stopping to eat, wash, or do any of the hundred things that interrupt our work. That is also not accounting for sewing in tails and working the edging. So if you have say 2 hours a day available to work, then you need 25 days to complete the body of the afghan. Allow another day or two for sewing in tails and another couple of days for the edging and you need about 30 days to complete the afghan. Note those figures are just used for the example. I don't know how long it will take you to do a row or how many rows you need to work. It could be twice as long as the sample if the factors are different. Good luck!
