Stitches

How do you join knitting when using circular knitting needles?

I'm using U.S. size 7 circular needles and the link that I am following (http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/patterns/hats/london-beanie.htm) says to join the stitches together. I found a link on youtube telling how to join the stitches, but for some reason mine seems so much harder to join because the circular needles are so long and the stitches are so short! I don't know what to do. Help! Thanks! :)

  1. Circular needles are available in different lengths. 100cm,80cm and 60cm. I have seen 40cm but on these the metal bit that you hold is proportionately long and I find it easier to use a set of double pointed needles. I find 60cm circular needles difficult with less than about 120 stitches. Fewer than that number I would use dpns.
  2. As the other answerer said, you need a shorter cable join on your circs. The number of stitches needs to go comfortably around the cable part for you to join up and keep knitting.
  3. Google "magic loop" knitting. Meanwhile, here's how to do it: 1. Count off 36 stitches in either direction. 2. Between stitch #36 and stitch #37, pull out the cable of the circular needle into a loop. 3. Slide the OTHER two ends of the stitches down to the needle tips. 4. Make sure the rows of cast-on stitches are straight and that they are parallel. 5. Slip the first stitch on either needle tip off the needle tip and onto the OTHER needle tip. You now have 35 stitches on one tip and 37 stitches on the other. 6. On the tip with the 37 stitches, pull the second stitch OVER the first stitch, off the needle tip, and onto the other needle tip. You now have 36 stitches on each needle tip. 7. Pull the "back" needle tip (the one with the yarn attached) out, leaving the stitches on the cable, plus enough of the cable that you can start working with it. Keep the stitches on the other needle tip. With the "free" needle tip, start working the stitches off the other needle tip. 8. When you have worked all the stitches off the needle tip, you will have a "free" needle tip in your left hand, stitches on the cable, and stitches on the right needle tip. 9. Pull the stitches from the cable onto the left-hand needle tip. 10. Pull the stitches from the right-hand needle tip onto the cable. 11. You now have a "free" needle tip in your right hand. Use it to work the stitches off the left needle tip. 12. Start over with No. 9 and continue until you have completed the project. You will always keep the "back" stitches on the cable, with free cable at both ends, and you will always work from right to left, knitting the next stitches off the left-hand needle tip onto the right-hand needle tip.
