I need a good high intensity, full spectum, non-glare light for reading and needlework...?

...while sitting in a chair. Idea? I have looked at OTT brand but it gets mixed reviews.

  1. Would the Mighty Brite XtraFlex 2 work out for you? I like it because it's pretty bright, and can use an adapter.
  2. My husband, at my request, purchased an Ott Light for me a few years ago. I am a painter and often paint late at night so I wanted a good light for this. Well, I was really disappointed in the Ott light. I felt it wasn't bright enough. But I couldn't complain as I requested it...so I have used it since then. Recently, however, the bulb burned out, and we don't live near a place that sells them, so for a few days I went back to using a normal desk lamp. I realized how much better the Ott light was! The desk lamp created a lot more glare and had a tendency to wash out the colors. I had to go back to the standard light to really appreciate the light that the Ott lamp gave me. I use one that attaches to my work table, and swivels all around with a flexible neck, and this has been great for me. I can easily push it out of my way when it's not needed, or bring it closer when it is. They also come as a floor model which can be adjusted. Lighting is much discussed on my painter's mailing list, and another lightbulb that is highly recommended is the GE Reveal light bulb; They are effective at filtering out yellow rays and produce a white light. http://www.gelighting.com/na/home_lighting/products/reveal_main.htm
  3. I have used two types of Ott lights - a free standing, over-the-shoulder one; and a smaller, table-based one. I have used them for sewing, reading, examining coins and stamps, and various other tasks. My Mom uses it as well for sewing and loves it. I don't know where you're seeing mixed reviews on Ott lights but we love ours.
