Can Anyone Help me With Knitting?
I've just starting knitting, and can cast on fine, but when i go to do the knit stitch it becomes too tight and I can't move the needles. Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong and how to fix it?

- Without being there to see exactly what you are doing, my best guess is that you are holding the yarn too tight. Ease up on your tension a bit and see if that helps.
- Loosen up on the cast-on! This is really important--not just for the 1st row, but for the finished piece will also be too tight on that edge. Keeping your tension will become natural soon... but until then you need to be conscious of it. The tightness may also happen when you finish and cast-off. Just keep it as even as possible.
- I agree with the others that you should make sure your cast on is not tight. If you always have trouble with tight stitches on the cast on, use two needles together and cast on over them. When you have finished casting on, pull out one needle and then begin knitting. When doing the knit stitch make sure that the stitches move freely on the needles. Loosen up the individual stitches as you do them until you get proficient in knitting loosely. Good luck!
- relax! many new knitters hold the needles and yarn too tight because they are learning something new. just lay yarn over your index fingerwrap yarn with even tension,, let yarn slide through. some find it easier to learn with larger needles like # 11 or 13 and bulky yarn.
