How can you disinfect a hand crochet baby blanket.?

While working on a baby blanket for a new arrival some nasty illness made their rounds at my house. Is there a way to disinfect the item without harming it?

  1. Dry clean?
  2. Hand wash it in the sink, use color bleach and hot water. Works great
  3. Soak it in warm (NOT hot) soapy water for five minutes. Gently squeeze out the excess water. Slosh gently in warm water to rinse out the soap. Gently squeeze out the excess water and repeat the last two steps. Roll in a towel to absorb most of the water and lay flat to dry. Your baby blanket will be germ free and look good as new. Dry cleaning can leave harmful chemicals on the blanket and hot water can stretch or shrink your yarn, depending on whether it's acrylic or wool.
  4. Expose it to sunshine for several hours.
