Hello R&P! I thought I'd do a feature on Deathrock...?

because it is a pretty fun genre and I have only met a few who are familiar with it here. Deathrock, also called Gothic Punk or Death Punk, should not be confused with Death Metal (for the two share nothing in common). It is often described as a blend between 80's Goth (Bauhuas and the like) and Punk, containing raw and energetic instrumentals with a spooky atmosphere. It originated and emerged from the L.A. Punk scene (with bands like 45 Grave, Kommunity FK and Christian Death), and also London (with 'Positive Punk' outfits like The Sex Gang Children, UK Decay and The Southern Death Cult) during the late 1970's and early 1980's. The music often contains tribal drumming, a very prominent bass, and horror/surreal/religious imagery inspired lyrics. As a whole, the genre is generally more toung-and-cheek (sometimes silly) and fun than traditional Gothrock. Like Punk, it was also built on a strong DIY ethic and has a general distrust of mass consumerism and self proclaimed authoritarian figures.
