Baby stuff...Crochet patterns and colours?
Okay, I just found out today that my favourite teacher of all time (AKA my favourite person) is pregnant, and won't be teaching at our school next year (I'm the only student she's told). I was really upset about the fact that I won't be seeing her for an entire year, but I was also extremely happy for her because I know that's what she wanted. Anyway, I was sitting in my geography class, and my teacher asked me why I was so upset. When she finally got me to tell her who it was about, she knew exactly what was wrong, and told me that I should crochet her a baby blanket and maybe a hat or something. So here's my question: Does anyone know of any patterns I could use? I don't know much about crocheting, only the basics (chain stitches, the ones where you turn around and chain stitch on the chain stitches, and the ones where you do three stitches in each hole), and therefore need a really simple pattern. I also need some colours. I don't know whether it's a boy or a girl (apparently she didn't want to know) so they have to be generic. Thanks! She's not due until September, but I want to make sure I have it done by the end of June, because that's the last time I'll see her before then.

- Try your local hobby/craft store, or try this website: http://www.anniesattic.com
- I like to use bright colors for babies. Here's an easy pattern for a baby blanket and after that one a cap pattern. Both use yarns that are easy to find. I usually buy mine at Wal-Mart. http://suzies-yarnie-stuff.blogspot.com/2006/08/rectangle-granny-afghan-pattern_11.html http://suzies-yarnie-stuff.blogspot.com/2008/03/kids-granny-hat-c.html
- lionbrand.com has a very good library of free patterns, depending on your skill level. They also have instructions for knitting and crochet that you can print with good diagrams, in case you don't understand a direction or want to learn a new stitch or two.
- Since you have some time to choose what you would like to make I am sending you these two sites. Usually with the two of them they have pictures of the items so that will help you. After you have chosen the pattern and hopefully you will not get stuck but if you do email me so I can help you "get-er dun". In regard to the color you can always count on white but now there are so many colors for baby yarn that you don't have to pick the pink or blue. Try this Go to http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog/category.jsp?_DARGS=/joann/catalog/supercatleftnav.jsp_A&_DAV=catName&_dynSessConf=-8733219090397319760&narrowSelection=true&categoryExpand=true&categoryfullPath=All+Products////product+home////knit+%26+crochet////yarn&CATID=cat393847&supercatId=cat1780&lftsuperCatName=yarn&subCatName=yarn and look at the category one and three of the yarns and see what kind of colors are there. The reason I don't mention number 2 is because there are only three items listed there. Hopefully this will help you get started. http://www.craftown.com/baby.htm http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/baby_selection.php
- The Lion Brand Yarn site has lots of free patterns. I've used the Earth Baby pattern before and it's easy (Half doubles and single crochets from what I remember....) Red Heart Yarn also has a lot of free patterns, but I don't think I've ever made one of their blankets. I'd suggest making one that's all in one piece. I've made some where you have to do motifs and strips and sew them together, and I've never been able to make them all the same size (LOL). I have a problem with tension sometimes!
