Crochet - how to start new yarn?

I'm learning to crochet and making a small blanket. My cat decided to chew through my yarn today... I got to the end of the row with the yarn that was left, but now I need to know how to start new yarn for the next row. Is there a good video showing how to do this, or can someone give good instructions?

  1. tie the yarn together with the new one and once you start crocheting you wont even know that its been tied.
  2. All you need to do is start crocheting with the new piece of yarn leaving a 6 inch tail. Finish one row then tie the old piece with the new piece (like the knot you use to begin tying your shoe) and weave in both ends....In the future try to keep yarn away from your cat - its asking for trouble ; D
  3. Just drop the old yarn and start working with the new yarn. When you complete the blanket, you'll need to pull the yarn ends gently to make sure the tension on the stitches is correct, then weave the yarn "tails" into the fabric to hide them. I prefer not to knot yarn--and I cut out knots if I find them in a wound skein of yarn. Nothing is gained by knotting the yarn, and the knots can be felt. Sometimes they work their way into view.
  4. They explain changing your yarn color or starting a new skein plus a lot more here. http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/?q=crochet911.html#c1 They also explain how to weave in your ends so the project will last for many years.
