Where can I find a knitting pattern for a Headband which doesn't use circular needles?

I've never been able to get on with circular needles so I'd love some help in finding a pattern which uses ordinary knitting needles. Hope someone can help!

  1. A headband isn't too difficult. All you need to do is knit a strip to fit the size of head you're knitting for! Use your imagination as to wool and needle size; i.e., chunky wool needs a 6/ 7mm needle.
  2. Try this: http://www.wikihow.com/Knit-a-Headband Its on wikihow there are many other good knitting patterns on wikihow. Also these but these are more complicated: http://knitting.about.com/od/accessories/p/fleece-earwarm.htm http://knitting.about.com/od/accessories/p/eye-headband.htm http://knitting.about.com/od/accessories/p/trinity-band.htm
  3. There are many different ways to knit a headband, with or without circular needles. You can just knit a strip, and join the ends together and that's it. You can knit a thin strip to go around the head and join the ends, or you can knit a short but very wide strip, and join the sides. It all depends on what kind of pattern you want to use. I would suggest garter stitch, since it has a lot of stretch. I might also like to knit a strip twice as wide as I need it, fold it over to make it double thick. You can also insert a short piece of elastic where you join the ends, or insert one on the inside of the tube to give it a firmer feeling in case you don't get the length just right. I don't find circular any different than straights. Knitting, after all, is just working one stitch at a time with two pointed sticks.
  4. I found this one and as an accessory your will have to have a cable needle or one needle with points on both ends. It is for ordinary needles and is really pretty. You can email me if you need more than just this one. http://knitting.about.com/od/knittingpatterns/p/cabled_headband.htm
  5. Here is a link for one that will knit up fast. The second link has many patterns to choose from. Try looking at the public library in the knitting section.
  6. Just because a pattern calls for using circular needles does not mean they have to be used. Almost any pattern can be made with straight needles or by using two circular needles if you need to cast one a really large number of stitches. The simplest way to make a headband is to just decide how wide you want it to be and start knitting a strip that width on straight needles. Knit until it is about an inch less then will fit around your head, cast off the stitches and sew the ends together. By making it a little short, it will stretch when you wear it and that will make it fit snugly which will make it fit and stay on your head a little bit better.
  7. Take the pattern for use on the circular needles, and just make it on straight needles! If it asks you to cast on 100, cast it on, but add 2, and they will be the seam later. Then knit and turn, and use the same pattern...
  8. Join ravelry.com It's a free knitting/crochet community-type website. You don't need to actually be involved with the community part, but it has the HUGEST database of patterns, free and ones you pay for. I would say there's a good chance that it has indexed just about every pattern you could find on the internet. It's a great website, and the users range from beginners to advanced, so you can feel free to ask questions (in the forums or even the designer of the pattern sometimes!) if you get lost. This is a nice one that a lot of knitters have done: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter06/PATTcalorimetry.html PS - I promise this is not an ad/spam message. I am an avid knitter and I think every knitter should know about this website. It's awesome, I get all my patterns from there.
