Stitches

What is the easiest crochet stitch besides single stitch? 10 pts?

I want to incorporate a different design on my daughter's cap and I have only started crocheting. I want to know an easy stitch that looks nice from those who know how to crochet. Thanks moms!

  1. I find single, double and triple all pretty easy. The trouble is you need to be clever enough to work out how the different stitches effect the sizing. I'll try and find the website I taught myself to crochet from. I'm pretty sure this was the one: http://learntocrochet.lionbrand.com/ I taught myself the different stitches, then just googled free crochet patterns. As you get more practise you can play with the patterns to encorporate your own special touches
  2. Yes I concur with the first answer the double or triple stitch are easy peasy if you know the single.
  3. easiest; slip stitch, but that won't help you much....best thing is get a book that has a pic of the diff stitches and how they are done if u don't know someone that crochets; try the double....it's not hard and it makes a bigger stitch....but i would get a book bc there are a lot of stitches that are more intricate ,and if you ever want to follow a pattern you will need a guide if u don't have someone to help...gl
  4. I've always thought double crochet (dc) looks really elegant and I find it's great for hats. Plus, any of those basic crochet stitches (single, double, even triple) aren't very hard. If you need a refresher, I definitely recommend the "I taught myself to crochet" kits that can be found at Walmart or Michaels (it's a book that comes with a few hooks for a bargain) or the Stitch N Bitch crochet book. They both also have patterns you could follow for great kids' or baby hats.
  5. Clusters are pretty easy and can be quite effective.. that is 3 triple crochets in one space (like what do if you were making a granny square). I have been crocheting for only about a year or two and it was one of the first stitches I learned. Just be careful when you increase, sometimes your work can get a bit of a funny shape quite quickly if you don't mark the beginning point of each row so you know from where you started the increase. I just recently made a hat using the following pattern - crochet 5 singles then join, start with 2 single crochet, then in the first space make 2 triple crochet, do 1 single crochet then in the next space make 1 triple crochet, and continue with this. You could always use 3 triple crochets instead of 2 if you want the hat to be more dense and warmer. For an interesting finishing effect you could try a shell in the last row of the hat - a shell is 5 triple crochets in one space, then a single crochet in between. I always think the best way to pick up new stitches is to just get creative, experiment, make mistakes, pull it out, then try again :) I must have done that at least 20 something times with the last hat i made lol. There are also some really good tutorial videos on you tube you should check out, they have been really helpful for me. Best wishes, I hope this helps, and happy crocheting! :)
