What type of Blanket is better?

Now, my friends mom is 2 or 3 mos pregnant and for the shower gift, I was thinking of making a blanket for him/her. I am not sure of what type of blanket, no-sew tie fleece blanket, like this http://cj214.blogspot.com/2009/02/no-sew-baby-blankets.html which is pretty simple, or there's a regular sewed quilt blanket, like this http://www.inspiri-art-and-craft.com/baby-blanket-pattern.html which is a little harder but may make a nicer blanket as I'm planning to add his/her name on it, but I am a very good cross stitcher, so I could also do a cross stitched blanket, and I also knit, so I could also do that. Any ideas what size? Which one? Anyone have any other patterns you'd suggest? Thanks.

  1. I always like the quilts. They look nicer to me, easy to wash, and not as difficult or time consuming as cross stitching or knitting. Also you can make virtually any type of blanket just by picking out different fabric. I'd suggest a quilted blanket.
  2. I am a maternity nurse. This is my favorite blanket and I buy it for all my babies. So check out their site and get some ideas. http://www.swaddledesigns.com/index.html
  3. I think one question you should be asking is how the nursery will be decorated. Which would look better while at the same time standing the test of time with a child dragging and gnawing on it when it gets a little older. Do you intend for it to be functional for years or as a keepsake/decoration once the baby gets a certain age?
