How do I "space" with my embroidery machine?

I am just starting to use an embroidery machine. I've got down most of it, but can't seem to "space" between words, or make more than 1 line ...help!

1. What embroidery machine are you using? Are you creating the words in a program like embird or are you getting them directly from your machine? On the brother machines if you hit the arrow button next to the display screen you'll get to choose a _. I beleive that gives you the space.
