What is the name of that craft?

My friend did it in highschool. It was kind of like a mini carpet, & similar to that plastic canvas thing ( http://www.needlework-tips-and-techniques.com/plastic-canvas.html ) but its not plastic canvas cause the yarns are sticking out like in a carpet & you use a tool of some sort to put the yarn in. Its nothing like a needle. I have the supplies since highschool but I never got to doing it, & now I forgot but IDK what the craft is called.
