What is a great sewing machine for embroidery and quilting?

I have a good basic sewing machine(babylock) so what would be a good reasonable machine that could do embroidery and machine quilting or would I need to just have 2 seperate machines? I am still new to sewing/quilting and would like a machine that's fairly easy to use and easy on price.Any suggestions would be great.

  1. You'll get different opinions here, but I think you should keep your eggs in separate baskets. The more different things a machine needs to do, the less well it will do any. Also, if any one function 'breaks', ALL your functions have to go to the repair shop. I'd prefer to KEEP my quilting machine while my embroidery machine was being repaired, or vice versa. By the way, I know people who use their Babylocks for quilting - have you tried it? Good luck!
  2. There are many good ones. I have babylock sewing and serger along with other brands. From what I have seen and heard from friends, they like their babylock embroidery machines. The big thing is dealer service. I am looking at a babylock embroidery machine. I like my Pfaff sewing the best, but test driving the embroidery machine was not fun. Go play and have fun test driving at the dealers.
  3. I have a Brother Innovi's 4000D and am extremely happy with it. I have worked it very hard and still it keeps on going with minimal service and well worth the money. If you are very active on both embroidery and quilting then it may be wise to have two machines so you don't have to constantly flipthe set up over from one to another, and then you could probably get less expensive machines which do both. It is wise to make sure that no matter what machine or machines you purchase, you get it from a reputable dealer with dependable on-site service for those "just in case" moments. The one I use is Triangle Sewing Centre in Guelph...extremely knowledgeable and helpful. http://www.trianglesewing.on.ca/
  4. Bernina make a great machine - Bernina Aurora 440 which is specially for quilting with a BSR foot. It also embroiders beautifully as well as sews. I recommend this and have an Aurora 430 as I don't do quilting. It is very easy to use after having the lessons on how to use the machine - this is a must.
  5. I have a Janome for Embroidery 15 years now and LOVE IT ;))))
  6. As you have most probably noticed there are different views on the embroidery machines. I personally love my Pfaff however it's embroidery cards are expensive. This is important to keep in mind as the machine is only as good as the designs it can do. Pfaff has also brought out a long arm quilting machine, however it does not do the proper embroidery. You should keep your other machine as things could always go wrong and it would not do for you to be without a sewing machine. It is important that you take your time, don't make rash decisions and enjoy yourself.
  7. Hello Ang..I bought an Bernina Aurora 440 QE when I first started to quilt. I also bought the embroidery module that goes with the machine..I'm happy with it, but I would suggest to you is go out and see and try the different machines out there..as it is a major expenditure..Pat
  8. I have a Bernina 730E and absolutely love it. It sews beautifully and embroiders the same. It is a computer so you are able to edit the designs right on the large screen. I have two Berninas and love them both. Good luck with your search. There are lots of machines out there.
  9. I can tell you the best on the market is the new Diamond from Viking. it is the best for quilting and embroidery. I'm a viking snob, and I also work for them. So I might not be the best to ask, I do have customer tell me that they have two machines one for sewing/quilting, and one for embroidery. The diamond, you only need one machine, it is that nice!!!!
