Stitches

First time! I am not sure if I should knit or crochet I want to make my boyfriend a birthday present!?

I need something that will be easy to do! I was thinking a hat and scarf or a blanket maybe? His birthday is dec 11! If I start within this week will I be able to finish? Anyone know of any easy free patterns? :]

1. Well, given the little detail, I assume you can do neither. Crocheting is easier than knitting. You should be able to finish, but you have to spend time doing it. I can't tell you what type of pattern to do based on this info. If I were you I would start out crocheting a granny square blanket or a scarf that is composed entirely of double crochets and single crochets. Just google that and you should be able to sift through patterns you might like. Youtube also has videos on trying to teach yourself to crochet.
2. To start out with knitting, start with a scarf. They're very easy to do. I get most of my patterns from www.lionbrandyarn.com. Pick a pattern that's marked easy, and try to find one that uses a larger size needle. The piece will work faster and will be easier for you to manage since you're just starting out.
