Stitches

can a cross stitch pattern set in 18 count be done in 14 count?

  1. Yes, it can. It will be about 25% larger in 14 count than in 18 count.
  2. Yes as the other answer stated it will be larger so you will need to make sure there is enough fabric.
  3. Of course it can be done. It only comes out as a different size, that's all.
  4. When changing fabric count you will need to recalculate your fabric size so you do not run out of fabric when stitching. Example. If your stitch count is 100 x 100 on 18 ct you will need a piece of fabric 11.5 x 11.5 inches. I added 6 inches (3 for each side) to allow for framing. Do do it on 14 ct. you will need 13.25 x 13.25 inches. The formula for this is stitch count / fabric count + 6 (border) = fabric size. If you are going to mat the piece add 8 inches instead of 6.
