where are all the audience members from the rockumentary Gimme Shelter 1969 today?
it's been fourty years i saw it with my son bunch of hippys getting high and taking it ou on the hells angels. anyway disgusting society but it was fascinating. here is my question, where are all you audience members from altamont today -i mean, the naked fat lady that tried to climb on stage, the blonde guy with the big glasses, the girl who is grooving than suddenly stops once the camera is on her, the hells angel with the fur animal hat, the chick with the crochet dress who tries to stop the black guy from gettting knifed, the naked guy during the daytime who is on the ground laughing and screaming, the dude with the hat openly selling hashish, lsd, marijuana, and all the othes....still alive, in jail, married a few times, born against christians, etc. Just wondering any altamont people here want to share some stories.

- Real good question. I wonder about the Asian chick who played the recorder while the bubble blew gently in the wind, a moment fs respite between battles. I wonder about that guy who was alternating swigs from a big ole jug of wine with hits from a joint on a clip. The dealer with the clicker who called out"hashish, mescaline, peyote, LSD". They guy who was tripping and wound up crowdsurfing whlie convulsing... The film always fascinated me. I was an avid student of the 60's when I was a teen 10 years later. I always thought that this is one film where you can just see the 60's come crashing and burning in less than 2 hours. And also ogle Tina Turner's legs and see some footage from when the Rolling Stones really were the world's greatest rock band... No, I have no updates, but I'll keep my eyes open. Unfortunately, I have no idea what any of their names are.
- where is the audience from woodstock 99?...what a bunch of losers...you think the hippies were bad...what about the society that tried to recreate it?
- I wasn't there...but recall the event very well (both good and bad). Bought the re-mastered 'Criterion' DVD a couple years ago...great stuff indeed! I sent an email to a friend of mine telling him of your question. He was a well known/respected regular member of the Rock & Pop section of Yahoo Answers back in the old days (2006-08). He still makes the odd appearance around here now and then, and was at that concert back on '69. His user ID here on Y!A is Psychedelic Will... http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=Am7yd8lgTxvHjOQTkqei42Dsy6IX;_ylv=3?show=il0Rch2Eaa Hopefully he will answer your question, as I'd love to hear his take on the whole experience :) *Edit - And here he is ... ⇩ ⇩ ⇩ ⇩ ⇩ ⇩ ⇩ ⇩ ⇩ ⇩
- I made the venue as a young lad with my older brother. And truth be told...the Hells Angels took it out on the hippies. We set up towards the back of the venue...but you still had to keep your eyes and ears open for the occasional motorcycle that would come screaming thru, especially during the day. We figured out quick that the closer to the stage you got...the more likely you were gonna have to deal with some of the Angels... and some of them rascals were already wild-eyed and ready to whoop some a$$. The stage was way to low...maybe 4-5 ft off the ground....it was hard to see much mid crowd on back...but we were partying and carrying on and could hear the music so it was not a big deal cept when Grace Slick and Jefferson Airplane was on...then Balin got cold cocked by one of the Angels which halted the show.. and I remember some type of scuffle when the Burrito Bros were playing too. But when the Grateful Dead didn't come on after CSN....there was a lull..The natives started getting restless... There were a few fights close to where we were...but they were more disagreements than actual fights and again we were by now pretty greased and gassed. I had actually hooked up with 2 young ladies who had made a pact with each other to turn this boy into a man...and did they ever ;o) It was dark when the Stones finally took the stage...hell they stopped and started over and over again...and Jaggers voice sounded like he was scared the Angels were gonna kick his a$$. Didn't hear anything about the stabbing until a few days later on the way home. I've only watched Gimme Shelter once and that was about a year ago...it really doesn't capture the moment in my opinion..no where close. And on a final note...hell who knows..I could have bought some of that hash or LSD from the dude with the hat...(BTW: The brown acid was bad anyways) I never cared to much for the Stones after that though. I always felt they should have come out and played earlier instead of waiting until after dark but that's me...
