Stitches

In knitting, why do I always end up with a huge amt.of yarn between casting on and knitting the first row?

At the last stitch in the first row knitted I usually end up with a very long tail.

  1. Depending on the type of cast on you used, you may have misjudged how much yarn you will need to complete the cast on. Just cut off the long tail, and leave enough of a tail to weave it later. Don't sweat the small stuff. Plus, what type of cast on do you use?
  2. Hi: that is why you have a huge amount of yarn , You have too big of a tail shorten it up a bit it need to be about 4 to 5 inches after your done casting on , but don't feel bad I had the same problem. Until a lady who teachs knitting told me why this happen and told me to shorten up my tail up. it okay if it as 4 to 5 inches left but it's takes time to get it right but after a while you will be able to tell how much yarn you will need to do a project . Also don't worry about the tail if it too long for now. Jjust keep knitting your project until your done, cut the tail down to 4 to 5 inches and weave it into your knitted project to get rid of it and do keep it out of your way.while your knitting your project Okay I hope this helps
