Stitches

Stitches after giving birth ?

First off, Merry Christmas everyone. I hope it was a Great one for you =] This question is Very TMI as well, I apologize uniadvance if I grossed you out in any way. Ok, so I had my daughter on the 20th of this month; and I had to get stitches. I just want to know if it is normal for clotting after 5 days, and are the stitches supposed to start dissolving already? I've notice them in the toilet and in the shower, along with the blood clots. It's only been 5 days, I've never had stitches before so I don't know how long it takes to close up your skin, but I guess I am assuming it would or should take longer than 5 days ? It also burns me when I pee. I used the numbing spray that they gave me at the hospital and it basically stopped working. Could this be infected or anything? or is it normal? has anyone gone through this and how did it turn out? Please help. This is my first time going through this.

  1. The burning is normal... at the hospital they gave me this little sprayer thing to put coool water in to spray myself down there with when I would pee and it made it feel sooooo much better. The witch hazel pads didn't do anything for me, though. My stitches started to dissolve after about a week, but it could have been sooner and I just didn't notice. I'm sure everything is okay. If you're worried, call your local ask-a-nurse or doctor and ask them :) Congrats on your new bundle of joy!
  2. I also had to get stitches after delivering, but I do not remember any coming out hat soon. As far as passing clots, that is normal. HOWEVER, if you are soaking through a pad an hour or so you need to contact your doctor or go to the ER b/c this could be a sign of hemorrhaging. I also know that it did burn when I urinated and the numbing spray didnt help me at all.. so I used the little squirt bottle they gave me from the hospital and would rinse myself off after going to the bathroom with water. Sometimes I would put freezing cold water in there and sometimes luke warm water, whatever felt good at the time. It is a good idea to rinse yourself off each time that you do go to the bathroom to make sure that you do not get an infection. Also.. do not wipe regularly.. more like a pat dry.. :) GOod luck!!
