Stitches

I'm a teenager and I wanted to know if I should learn to knit or crochet first?

I have been into crafts for a while. I'm 17 years old and would like to finally take up knitting or crocheting. I was wondering what would be the easiest for me to do. The most I've done with a yarn like material was friendship bracelets. What I plan on making is scarves and cloves for right now.

  1. I think knitting is more versatile, but maybe that's because I'm a knitter!
  2. YES, YES, YES. You will always be glad you did! I do both however everyone is different. I think crocheting is best because it is more versatile. Knitting has only 2 basic stiches But everything is contained on 2 needles. If you drop a stitch it's harder to correct. Good luck!
  3. Crocheting definitely came easier for me than knitting but for something like scarves knitting tends to be more time efficient. Both are great skills to have though.
  4. I learned to knit and crochet from books when I was about your age. I think it's easier to learn to crochet either from a book or from another person. One needle, if you screw up it's easier to rip. Gloves and mittens are a little better knit, but scarves and hats are nice either way. I don't recall ever crocheting gloves although you wouldn't need anything to hold stitches while you did the other fingers...I don't know. I'd start with crochet anyway.
  5. Why not do both? I use crochet for afghans, and thread work. Knitting I use for clothing. I find knitting to be very relaxing. One good thing with crocheting is that if you drop a stitch, then you only have to pick up one. If you drop a stitch in knitting, it is harder to pick up but is possible. Try to learn both, you will not regret it.
  6. It totally depends on the person. I took up knitting very quickly, but I can't crochet at all. It's all about you. I vote knitting! =]
